Let's say you had a young elephant to buy Christmas presents for. What are the perfect gifts to leave under the tree? What kind of toys do baby elephants like to play with? Well, luckily for you I've made a short list of things elephant calves love, to help you get your shopping started.
Soccer ball- as I mentioned in an earlier post, elephants love to kick around a ball, although it might need to be pumped up several times.
Tub of water- elephants also love water, especially since it keeps their sensitive skin hydrated. They have so much fun splashing around!
Car tire- This one is a longtime favorite of elephants of all ages. It's flexible, it can roll and if you hang it up, it's a nice punching bag!
Log, stick or tree stump- You can roll it, you can chew on it, you can push it around; what's not to love about a good chunk of tree?
Sandbox/dirtbox-Like water, dirt and sand is great for protecting elephant skin, but it also serves as a nice padding for their feet while they play.
Popcorn machine- This toy is my personal favorite, and happens to be a new addition to the Cincinnati Zoo's collection of elephant toys. Just reach up your trunk, blow in the hole, and popcorn shoots out the top!
So there you have it, a short list of some of the greatest elephant toys imaginable. I hope you have an elephant-tastic holiday! Merry Christmas, everyone!
